In a newly published report by Disaster Trade – a project supported by the Economic and Social Research Council and the Department for International Trade – experts in supply chain analysis examine how British trade shapes the disasters that affect producer countries.
Looking at the UK's “disaster footprint”, the report explores how extreme weather events caused by climate change is impacting livelihoods overseas.
A section of the study explores how tea communities in Sri Lanka have experienced unusual weather patterns such as increasingly intense and unpredictable rainfall and how this leads to a growing number of devastating landslides on tea estates.
