Tea Transparency Tracker

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre

Tuesday 7 December 2021

Today the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre published a Tea Transparency Tracker, which includes a survey of 65 tea companies (including ETP Members) about their supply chain policies. Our response is below.

"The Ethical Tea Partnership supports the global movement towards greater transparency of companies’ operations and supply chains. Disclosure of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) data and general transparency sends a strong indication of a company’s accountability for its operations.

“The Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP) works with our members to drive improvements in social justice and environmental sustainability in tea; we form collaborations for projects, business pilots and policy work, we do not certify or assure any company’s supply chains. ETP plans to convene the tea industry in early 2022 to develop a “Roadmap to Transparency” in order to support tea companies to embrace this drive for supply chain disclosure. We will work with companies, trade associations, certification bodies and other companies on the Roadmap.

“Increasingly, companies are expected to be transparent about their operations and disclose more than financial data. This requirement is coming from regulators, governments and financial institutions globally, who are mandating disclosure of supply chain information.”
