I’ve just returned from holiday in the Lake District where I took part in a running event with friends. Since we were travelling all the way from Brighton, we thought it prudent to make a holiday of it and ended up staying at a National Trust campsite in Great Langdale – one of the most picturesque parts of the UK I have seen. It really was a serene couple of days and a great opportunity to relax, unwind, and reflect.
Now you’re probably wondering what this has to do with tea sustainability… This period of reflection continued when I returned to work, with my inbox giving me plenty of reminders about the previous few months and what had been achieved.
This made me think that it’s probably a good idea to highlight some of the achievements in this blog, and to point out some of the resources we've produced. However, before I do that, I just want to take an opportunity to thank Alfred Njagi, Mao Limin, Rohinton Babaycon, Roshan Rajadurai, and Sebastian Hobhouse for giving up their time to come and represent producers at TEAM UP 2013 and help make it such a success. For a good round up of the day's proceedings you should read the TEAM UP 2013 Report
During the build up to TEAM UP 2013, both Sarah and I spent a lot of time working on new materials that we were pleased to unveil on the day. Delivering Change provides a comprehensive round up about how our projects and partnerships are benefitting workers, improving management practices, and helping the industry to respond to major environmental issues such as climate change. As a side note, I’d also like to thank Chris and his team at Harrison and Co for putting together what I consider to be a great looking booklet.
In terms of the ETP website there is also a new section dedicated to training materials that is continually being added to. And finally, I highly recommend watching the International Trade Centre’s video to see how our partnership is helping smallholder farmers to become more resilient to the effects of climate change and mitigate their impact. Oh, and look out for a cameo appearance and a spot of dancing from Jane Nyambura!
