Certification in tea

Certification schemes work to assure both brands and consumers that the products they buy are socially responsible, have a negligible environmental impact, and are financially beneficial to those who produce them. However, recent developments have brought to attention the inherent weaknesses of certification in preventing, detecting, and remediating systemic issues in tea.

In response to this, at this year’s Members’ Strategy Day we ran a one-hour session to explore the relevance and effectiveness of certification for the tea industry and whether there are alternative methods to achieve sustainable outcomes.
